I think I get it now. For several years, there has been a somewhat irritating “standards movement” wherein quasi-technical developers (let’s face it, authoring HTML and CSS is not the same as actual programming) proclaimed loudly and obnoxiously the virtues of XHTML. And then actual technical people could see that they didn’t really know what they were talking about.
Every site I’ve created since I’ve been doing this professionally has been authored in XHTML 1.0 Strict, and I don’t really feel bad about that. They work right, they look right, and I’ll happily move on to the next standard that works and looks right.
As usual, people are just being a-holes.
